REGINA, Saskatchewan - Award-winning cookbook author and TV chef, CJ Katz, has touched the hearts (and stomachs) of home cooks across the Country. Her latest cookbook, One Loaf at a Time/One Bowl at a Time: The Recipes that Brought us Together While we Remained Apart During COVID-19, is on track to be a National bestseller!

Our world forever changed in March 2020 with the onset of the Global pandemic. As the world stayed home, something happened. Families were finding their way back into the kitchens. Cooking, baking, and sharing recipes and tips was how we came together in the wake of COVID-19.

As an avid home cook and proponent of ‘scratch cooking’, CJ Katz created an online forum for home cooks around the country to share ideas and recipes. It became apparent that people were craving for something tangible. CJ was no stranger to educating and inspiring home cooks, from her award-winning first cookbook, TASTE: Seasonal Dishes from a Prairie Table, to hosting CTV’s long running cooking show, The Wheatland Café.

“COVID-19 brought me, as I'm sure many of you, back to our roots”, says Katz “It has given us a moment to slow down the pace, cook from scratch, perhaps bring back some of those old-fashioned values, and appreciate a home-cooked meal. These books are a result of us ‘coming together’. Home cooks from across the country reached out in the early days of the pandemic. These are their stories and their recipes.”

Personal stories of perseverance, and anecdotes on COVID-19 are woven throughout 95 recipes. These include CJ’s own and those of 61 other seasoned cooks from across Canada, with over 250 beautiful full colour photographs, this book will be an essential addition to every kitchen. Two volumes, one of baking and one of soups and stews, uniquely bound together, are a 'time capsule' of an unprecedented moment in our history.

“I can't say enough! Flipping through the pages brought me back to my roots, being reminded that everyone’s unique story is the secret ingredient to the delicious recipes...Cooking and eating have connected families and friends for as long as we know, and COVID-19 was a time no different,” says Lucas Makowsky, cooking enthusiast and Olympic Champion.

In addition, $2 from every book sold is going to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We are honoured to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO, Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation. “Now, more than ever, hope and healing truly does begin with you.”

Released in November 2020, over half the original print run has made their way into homes across the country. Both bound and e-version are available. They can be purchased at www.cjkatz.com, McNally Robinson, and select stores across Saskatchewan.

Advance Praise for the Book:

“It is so much more than a cookbook, it is a time capsule, it is a reminder of a moment in time when we were all together while staying separate. I love the photos - not just of the food, but of what was going on. How the struggle to find yeast was a real thing and finding a bottle of hand sanitizer was like striking gold! What a treasure this book is! Thank you!!!!”

~Wendy Richards, home cook

“This is the best item I have purchased since this Covid-19 started. Love, love it. Will definitely be leaving it to one of my Granddaughters who will appreciate it.” ~Lillian M Scherr, home cook
